More then twenty years after the suicide of Pete Ham, Badfinger's music has continued to live on in various compilations, rediscovered demo tapes, and solo efforts from the other members of the group. The latest is from drummer Mike Gibbins, who maintains a 60's or 70's sound on this release of new material that has more of a George Harrison sound than it does Badfinger. There are times when Gibbins falls into that dreaded "too old too rock and roll" rut, but he always rights himself with another nice ballad, or even the catchy "Bad Boy Blues", which although an odd inclusion here, is a nice diversion midway through the disc. "Time In" is one of the standouts, mixing one part Procol Harum and one part Supertramp into one of those cuts that keeps playing in your head long after you're done listening. "Picture Of You" is a nice piano and keyboard ballad and "Layaway", one of those with the Harrison guitar sound, has been mentioned as a tribute to former bandmate Pete Ham? Gibbins is best when the piano or keyboard is the focal instrument, and doesn't quite have the vocal strength to keep up with the more rocking cuts. For casual Badfinger fans this may be a little on the disappointing side, but Gibbins does a nice job of writing songs that stay rooted in the past without being stale, and letting the music itself take precedence over the production studio temptations.
